The Problem

More Than Just a Scratch

Our client, Mr. Johnson, reported a hit-and-run incident. While the damage to his vehicle was minor, a "fender bender" as he described it, the other driver had fled the scene. Mr. Johnson was shaken by the incident and concerned about potential long-term issues with his car. He also felt a strong sense of injustice; the other driver had clearly been at fault and shown a complete disregard for responsibility. He contacted the police, but with no witnesses and limited details about the other vehicle, the investigation stalled. Frustrated and seeking closure, he hired our firm to locate any witnesses to the incident.

The Investigation

A Wider Net

Our investigation began with a detailed interview with Mr. Johnson, gathering all available information about the incident, including the time, location, and any details he could recall about the other vehicle. We then implemented a multi-pronged approach to locate potential witnesses: Canvassing the Area: Our investigators canvassed the area where the fender bender occurred, speaking with residents and businesses along the street. While many hadn't seen the actual impact, several individuals recalled seeing a vehicle matching the description provided by Mr. Johnson in the vicinity around the time of the incident. Reviewing Security Footage: We contacted businesses in the area with security cameras, requesting access to their footage. While most cameras didn't capture the actual fender bender, one camera captured a partial license plate number of the fleeing vehicle. Social Media Monitoring: We monitored local social media groups and online forums, searching for any mentions of the incident or descriptions of the vehicle. While we didn't find direct mentions of the fender bender, we did find a post from a local resident complaining about a reckless driver matching the description of the driver who hit Mr. Johnson. Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Records: Using the partial license plate number, we were able to obtain vehicle registration information from the DMV. This provided us with the make and model of the vehicle and the registered owner's name and address. The investigation took an unexpected turn when we ran a background check on the registered owner. We discovered a history of multiple traffic violations, including several hit-and-run incidents. This suggested that the fender bender was not an isolated incident and that the driver had a pattern of reckless and irresponsible behavior.

The Investigation

More Than a Fender Bender

Our investigation not only identified the driver responsible for the fender bender but also uncovered a pattern of dangerous driving behavior. The eyewitness accounts and the security camera footage corroborated Mr. Johnson's account of the incident, and the background check revealed a concerning history. This information was turned over to the police, who were able to use it to strengthen their case against the driver. The driver was charged with hit-and-run, reckless driving, and other related offenses. Mr. Johnson was grateful for our work. He not only received compensation for the damage to his vehicle but also felt a sense of justice knowing that a dangerous driver had been held accountable. This case, which initially appeared to be a simple fender bender, highlighted the importance of thorough investigation, even in seemingly minor incidents. It also underscored the potential for uncovering more serious underlying issues and protecting the public from repeat offenders.
